Our Commitment to Safety at Creekside Nature Unschool

At Creekside, we believe that children learn best when they feel safe, supported, and cared for—and when parents can drop them off with complete peace of mind. While our days are filled with muddy boots, giggles, and big adventures, safety is always at the heart of everything we do.

Trained, Caring Staff - Every staff member at Creekside is thoroughly background checked, fingerprinted, and trained in child and adult First Aid, CPR, and AED use. This isn’t just about checking boxes—it’s about ensuring the people caring for your children have the skills, knowledge, and calm confidence to respond in any situation. Check out our training certification near our fully stocked first aid kits and fire extinguisher on the wall at the indoor classroom.

A Safe Place to Explore - We’re fortunate to partner with Dickson Valley Camp and Retreat Center, who shares our commitment to safety. The trails, play spaces, and gathering areas we use are regularly maintained and checked for potential hazards. While nature will always have its bumps and surprises, we take care to ensure that our spaces are as safe as they are beautiful.

Prepared for the Unexpected - From bee stings to scraped knees to sudden storms, we have plans in place for all kinds of situations. Our staff knows what to do, who to call, and how to keep children calm and cared for until a parent arrives, if needed. We also practice age-appropriate safety routines with the children, so they learn how to move through our spaces with awareness and confidence.

Why It Matters - The best kind of learning happens when children are free to take healthy risks—climbing a log, balancing on a stump, investigating a wiggly bug, tinkering with some child appropriate sized tools —while knowing there’s a trusted adult nearby. Our safety practices aren’t about eliminating adventure; they’re about creating the conditions where adventure can flourish.

We Encourage Parents to Be Prepared Too - While our staff is trained and ready, we believe safety is even stronger when parents are equipped. Learning child and adult First Aid, CPR, and AED use is one of the most valuable gifts you can give to your child and your whole family, friends, and community.

When your child sees you prepared to help in an emergency, it teaches them the importance of responsibility, compassion, and being ready to care for others. And while we all hope you’ll never need to use those skills, the confidence and peace of mind you gain are worth every minute of the training. If you are interested in a First Aid For Parents and Caregivers course at Creekside Nature Unschool in the near future, contact me and I'll compile a list and provide the resource!

When your child is with us, they’re part of a community that is as committed to their well-being as it is to their growth. That’s our promise to you. I share this link with you as a parent resource and child advocate. I am not associated with the American Heart Association in any other capacity than personal experience as a satisfied customer who has been certified through them for over ten years, putting my skills to practice with confidence.
