Preschool Then and Now
Preschool has changed a lot over the years. In generations past, early childhood was filled with long hours of outdoor play, unstructured time, and freedom to explore. Children learned through doing—climbing trees, watching bugs, digging in the dirt, and following their imaginations wherever they led. There was less pressure and more presence.
In recent years, preschool has often shifted indoors - toward desks, screens, worksheets, and fast-paced schedules. Academic goals have crept in earlier, replacing play with performance and exploration with instruction. While many programs still offer learning activities and care, today's children often spend far more time sitting than moving, working through timed stations with headcount limits, and far less time outside than their bodies and brains truly need.
At Creekside Nature Unschool, we're returning to the roots of childhood. Our program was born out of a desire to reimagine preschool as a place of wonder, movement, and deep connection to God's creation, one another, and ourselves.
At Creekside Nature Unschool, we know that children thrive when they are trusted to explore the world at their own pace and led by their curiosity. Our outdoor, play-based, and faith-centered approach allows children to build confidence, resilience, and joy through authentic nature experiences. Whether balancing on logs, painting rocks and sticks, or observing tadpoles in a pond with friends, children learn deeply and meaningfully daily.
Creekside offers a gentle rhythm reflecting the seasons and sacredness of childhood. We are here not to rush kids ahead but to root them—body, heart, and spirit—in a love for learning, God's creation, and who He created them to be.

Mission
At Creekside Nature Unschool, we aim to nurture each child’s innate curiosity and wonder through play-based experiences in God’s creation. Rooted in faith and grounded in child-led exploration, we provide a safe, joyful outdoor environment where preschoolers build confidence and foster a strong sense of community. Our program also aims to develop a lifelong love for nature, cultivating hearts that are attentive to the natural world, to one another, and to the Creator who made it all.
Vision
We envision a world where every child grows up rooted in wonder, connected to community, and attuned to the rhythms of God's creation. At Creekside Nature Unschool, we strive to spark a lifelong journey of learning, stewardship, and faith by cultivating early experiences of joyful exploration, deep belonging, and reverence for the natural world. By honoring each child's voice and offering space to grow in nature, we are helping raise resilient, compassionate, and curious individuals prepared to flourish in God's world.
